U.E.L.: In terms of leak detection, this is the abbreviation for Upper Explosion Limit. For methane gas, 100% of the UEL would equal a gas concentration of 15% gas volume in a given sample. In French, the term would be L.S.E. or Limit Superior Explosive.
UNISPHERE (Sphere): A spherical-shaped pig. Small sizes are normally solid. Larger ones are hollow, filled with liquid and inflated to size to pipe ID.
Valve-to-Fitting Adapter (for SHORTSTOPP® equipment): Type II SHORTSTOPP® fittings do not have a standard bolt circle. An adapter is attached to the fitting in order to bolt the fitting to the valve.
V.L.S.: Vehicle Light Surveillance is a small, gas-system, surveillance vehicle normally used in green areas, sidewalks, lawns, etc.
Volt: the volt is a measure of the potential energy of the source or the "pressure" pushing electrons through the wire.
VSR: Vehicle de Surveillance des Reseaux or gas system surveillance vehicle. GAZOMAT makes two kinds of such vehicles: the VSR analog and the Digitec 2000.
