Mechanical Design/Process Engineer - Salt Lake City, Utah

BASIC FUNCTION:

Maintains tools and technologies required to accurately inspect pipe in various pipe diameters and product medium.  This includes trouble shooting, root cause analysis, designing and implementation of solutions.  Transitions new tools from development to sustaining, including reviewing and approving design documentation.  Works with all aspects of mechanical piece parts assemblies, processes, and equipment. 

ABILITIES

  • Addresses tool issues and determines root cause through use of problem solving analysis tools and working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.  Communicates and implements solutions.
  • Effectively communicates all issues, analysis, corrective actions, and implementation plans with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient at solid modeling and modeling analysis for mechanical designed parts.
  • Supports manufacturing efforts in continuous improvement through DFM/A, LEAN Manufacturing, Process Improvement, Tooling and Fixturing.
  • Conducts product integrity tests, to prove out design concepts, and product reliability tests, documenting the results clearly.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all aspects of assigned products/projects in regard to applications, design standards and procedures, manufacturing techniques, etc., in order to provide technical direction.
  • Prepares all necessary documentation, including assembly drawings, Bill of Materials and engineering changes to be used to complete engineering change requests.
  • Provides engineering direction and direct feedback to other engineers through design reviews and concept evaluations.
  • Provides status updates of all activities to supporting organizations and leadership team.  Handles several issues simultaneously.
  • Supports job quoting and tool run processes by developing alternate tool configurations to accommodate customer needs.
  • Gains a thorough knowledge of all aspects of ILI tools.
  • Builds and integrates legacy tool information into new systems.

REQUIRMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and two + years relevant work experience. 
  • Extensive experience applying mechanical engineering principles, practices and formal review procedures including ANSI dimensioning and geometric tolerances.
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes and machining methods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Extensive skills using Solid Model CAD tools, and assembly manipulation required to design and evaluate tool designs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of tolerance stack analysis, broad materials knowledge and problem solving tools.
  • Experience with Bill of Materials and change control, and documenting design iterations, and concepts. 
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
