BASIC FUNCTION:
Works from blueprints and sketches to set up and operate engine and turret lathes or milling machines, resulting in the fabrication of metal and plastic components.
Accountabilities:
- Operates from blueprints, sketches, specifications and instructions to secure tools, jobs, and fixtures for making setups and operating various machines to produce a variety of components.
- Shapes and threads to drawing tolerances. Makes proper selection of feeds and speeds for machining.
- Performs necessary standard machine shop mathematical computations and uses tables and charts pertaining to equipment, tolerances, material, etc. Grinds own cutting tools.
- Works with and completes necessary forms such as job orders. Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Maintains a clean, orderly work area, ensuring TDW safety standards are maintained.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Reads blueprints and sketches, and apply to close tolerances.
- Able to set up and operate various tools and equipment such as engine and turret lathes, mills and a variety of hand tools.
- Able to perform standard machine shop math computation and use tables, charts and standards pertaining to equipment, tolerances, materials, etc.
- Capable of grinding own cutting tools.
- Periodic lifting required to be performed in compliance with TDW safety regulations.
