Data Analyst - Salt Lake City, Utah


TDW MAGIPIE® is a company specializing in Magnetic Pipeline Inspection Systems for the Petroleum industry. We are experiencing growth in both our domestic and global operations. As a growing company TDW MAGPIE is seeking energetic and experienced professionals for the following position:

BASIC FUNCTION: Interprets, evaluates, analyzes and documents data generated by electronic surveys of pipeline to determine if there are defects in the pipe due to geometric anomalies.  Interprets pipeline maps and utilizes appropriate software to prepare reports of survey for customer in accordance with established quality control procedures.  Verifies reports for accuracy.

Accountabilities:

  • Sets up and operates appropriate software.  Analyzes computer-generated data, pipeline maps, geometry survey reports and field data for the purpose of generating preliminary and final reports resulting from an internal pipeline inspection survey in accordance with established quality control procedures.
  • Interprets, evaluates and documents tool data, determining locations of pipeline anomalies and other features such as valves, bends, tees, repair sleeves, welds and benchmarkers.
  • Collects data from the In-Line Inspection Technicians and incorporates information into inspection data.
  • Frequently works with customers in making final report presentations, answering questions, asking questions, participating in field inspections, training and demonstrating TDW software.
  • Completes, maintains and closes job files containing field checklists, maps and final reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Associate degree or the equivalent job experience in computer operations or equivalent experience.  Good basic math skills, including algebra.
  • Must be proficient in the use of IBM-compatible PCs, with working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Access. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with pipeline or well logging industry is desired.

Levels:  (Note:  Level definitions do not provide for Automatic promotion.)

Trainee:  Entry level upon demonstration of minimum job requirements.

Data Analyst:  Must have achieved minimum experience and training to achieve Level II certification in applicable technology as stated in In-Line Inspection Personnel Qualification and Certification Standard No. ILI-PQ-2003.  Must be able to provide quality analysis on work performed by lower level analysts.

Sr. Data Analyst:  Must have achieved minimum experience and training to achieve Level II certification in applicable technology as stated in In-Line Inspection Personnel Qualification and Certification Standard No. ILI-PQ-2003.  Must be able to provide quality analysis on work performed by lower level analysts.

Lead Data Analyst:  Must have achieved minimum experience and training to achieve Level III certification in applicable technology as stated in In-Line Inspection Personnel Qualification and Certification Standard No. ILI-PQ-2003.  Provides technical direction to lower level analysts.  Promotion to this level is restricted to company’s need.
